平安中期以降の朝廷に仕える貴人が乗る、牛の引く館者全般をいう。 細かく切り込みを入れた御簾(みす)を見て欲しい雅な一品である。
This is a carriage in which the nobles who served the imperial court from the middle of the Heian period rode. It is a graceful work in which we want you to especially notice the bamboo blinds with their fine details.

上野東照宮

金蘭豪華な東照宮、金色の和紙での製作は相当な技量を要する。 山鹿灯籠では宮造りと称する。
The gorgeous gold-covered Toshogu Shrine, which required a lot of skill to make using golden Japanese paper. In the art of Yamaga lanterns we call it miya-zukuri (shrine-building).

水車のある家

水車のある家 / 松本 清記作
House with a water mill
灯籠製作の第一人者と称された氏の戦後の代表作。 作家の尾崎士郎をして「賤が伏屋(しずがふせや)の灯籠に灯りを点じて山鹿の街を偲び候」と讃仰せしめた。
This is a masterpiece made after the war by the author who was called the guru of lantern making. The author Shiro Ozaki praised it by saying that "it is a humble cottage in which a light can be lit and it serves as a reminder of what the streets of Yamaga used to look like".

鳥かご

鳥かご

竹ひごの部分から中に入った小鳥に至るまで、中を空洞に造っている。 山鹿灯籠で伝統的に造られている形式のひとつ。
A work which is a hollow cavity made with thin strips of bamboo and a small bird inside. It is one of traditional forms of Yamaga lanterns.

金閣寺

金閣寺 / 徳永 正弘作
Kinkakuji
米国のジョンソン大統領に佐藤首相から贈られた作品(レプリカ)。 上部にある鳳凰(ほうおう)は羽の一枚一枚までもが緻密に表現されている。
This is a reproduction of the work presented by Prime Minister Sato to the US President Johnson. The phoenix in the upper part is expressed in detail down to every single feather in its wings.

矢壺

矢壺
Arrow-shaped vessels
端午の節句に贈られることもある。 壺部分には灯りが入る。 山鹿灯籠で伝統的に造られている形式のひとつ。
Sometimes they are given as presents for the Boy's Day celebration. There is a light in the vessel part. It is one of the traditional forms of Yamaga lanterns.

祐徳稲荷神社

山鹿灯籠における宮造りは屋根の貼り着けが命である。 和紙の重なりを目立たせることなく、接着部分だけを薄く削いだ和紙を多めに貼ることで、唐破風(からはふ)屋根特有の美しい曲線を再現している。
Attaching the roof is the most important thing in miya-zukuri, which is a style of Yamaga lanterns. Beautiful curves peculiar to cusped gable roofs can be reproduced by gluing lots of thinly cut washi paper only at the adhesion parts without noticeable overlaps of paper.

古今伝授の間

熊本県からの制作依頼で、宮内庁に献上したもの(複製品)。 山鹿灯籠の製作は、技術力は勿論のこと途方もない技の細かい部品作りや単純作業などの根気強さが求められる。
This is a copy of an offering to the Imperial Household Agency made at the request for its production by Kumamoto Prefecture. Manufacturing of Yamaga lanterns requireds perseverance, the skill of making small as well as fine parts and doing tremendous amounts of work using these high-level skills.

姫路城

坂東玉三郎丈が、泉鏡花(いずみきょうか)の戯曲「天守物語」を山鹿の八千代座で演じたのを記念して制作されたもの
This was produced to commemorate the performance by Tamasaburo Bando, a Kabuki actor, in the Kyoka Izumi's play "Tenshu Monogatari" at the Yachiyoza theater in Yamaga.

座敷造り

座敷造り

宮造りと異なり、床の間・書院・掛軸に至るまで再現している。 誰かが住んでいそうな気がする一品。
Unlike in miya-zukuri, the tokonoma (alcove), the study and even the hanging scrolls are reproduced in this work. This work make one feel like someone is living in the house.

金刀比羅宮旭社

銅瓦葺の二層の建物で全体に多くの美しい彫刻がなされている。 神仏分離以前の松尾寺の金堂であり、そのあまりの豪華さに江戸時代に参拝した森の石松は、本堂と誤認してここへの参拝のみで帰ってしまったと伝えられる。
There are many beautiful carvings all over this two-story building with copper tile roofs. This is the golden pavilion of the Matsuo Temple from before the split of Buddhism and Shinto and it is said that Mori no Ishimatsu, a traveler from the Edo period who worshiped its extraordinary luxury, mistook it for the main hall of the temple and returned here only to worship it.

金灯籠に始まった山鹿灯籠は長い歴史の中で宮造り・座敷造りなどへ多様化してきた。 古式台灯は中でも古くから伝統的に作られている形式。
Yamaga lanterns that began with golden lanterns have diversified into miya-zukuri and zashiki-zukuri in the course of their long history. These old style lamps are made in the traditionally known form from the ancient times.

法隆寺 金堂

The Golden Pavilion of the Horyuji Temple
法隆寺は世界最古の木造建築間口5間、奥行き4間の入母屋(いりもや)構造である。 山鹿灯籠の中でも大きな作品である。 和紙造りとは思えない重厚な作品となっている。
Horyuji temple is the oldest wooden building in the world with the width of 5 rooms and the depth of 4 rooms and a gabled roof. It is a big work even for the art of Yamaga lanterns. It is a sturdy work so one cannot even think that it is made of Japanese paper.

法隆寺 五重塔

The 5 story pagoda of the Horyuji Temple
初重から五重までの屋根の逓減率が高いことが特徴で、五重の屋根の一辺の長さは初重屋根の半分である これだけの高さの建造物を中空の和紙のみで歪みなく積み上げた作品から、氏の製作技術の高さが見て取れる
It is characterized by a high rate of decrease of the roof from the first level to the fifth level, and the length of one side of the roof of the fifth level is half of that of the roof of the first level.From this work which was built up to this height only using hollow washi structures without any shape distortion, we can understand how high is the level of the author's manufacturing skills.

静岡浅間神社楼門

江戸時代後期を代表する漆塗極彩色が施された壮麗な楼門は、女性灯籠師ならではの繊細で丁寧な技で表現した作品となっている
This majestic gate tower with the lacquer coating technique representing the late Edo period is a work expressing delicate and gentle techniques unique to female lantern craftsmen.

鞠智城(鼓楼)

Horyu temple’s five-story pagoda
山鹿市に実在する八角形建物 発掘調査で出土した建物の基礎構造から鼓楼として復元された 山鹿市の要請を受け、山鹿灯籠としての八角形構造物鞠智城が完成した
This is an octagonal building which actually exists in Yamaga City. The tower was restored based on the foundation which was excavated during an archeological survey. In response to a request of Yamaga City, this part of the Kikuchijo Castle was created as a Yamaga lantern in the form of this octagonal structure.

金灯籠

金灯籠
Golden lantern
山鹿灯籠を代表する形であり、灯籠祭りで女性が頭に乗せ踊ることで全国的に知られるようになった
This is a representative form of Yamaga lanterns and it became known nationwide thanks to women dancing with them on their heads during the lantern festival.

大正時代山鹿初の西洋建築物和紙でコンクリートを表現したが、年月を経て、現存する建物と同じように古びた風合いを醸し出している
Yamaga's first Western-style building. Although the concrete walls are expressed using Japanese paper, after years, the work perfectly shows the old texture that is similar to that of the existing building.
